Sixers being in Jerry Colangelo to help with the "Process!"

On Monday afternoon, the Philadelphia Sixers held a press conference. Nobody knew why Principal Owner, Joshua Harris was holding a press conference in the middle of a season and few hours before the Sixers were taken on the San Antonio Spurs. So around 4:30 PM ET, Harris announced that the Philadelphia Sixers have hired former General Manager and owner of the Phoenix Suns, Jerry Colangelo as "Senior Adviser" of the team's managing partner and Chairman of Basketball of Operations.  Sam Hinkie will stay on as Team President and General Manager.

Colangelo who has a long resume and not just in basketball, he started his professional basketball career with his home town team the Chicago Bulls before leaving in 1968 to become the youngest and first GM in Phoenix Suns history. He also owned several other teams like the Arizona Diamondbacks of Major League Baseball, the Phoenix Mercury of WNBA, the Arizona Sandsharks of the Continental Indoor Soccer league and the Arizona Rattlers of the Arena Football League. He also helped with relocation of the NHL's Winnipeg Jets to Phoenix to become the Phoenix Coyotes (now known as the Arizona Coyotes). That's just some of his resume, he was also elected into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2004, he's won the NBA Executive of the Year four times (1976, 1981, 1989 & 1993), he was inducted into the Phoneix Suns Ring of Honor in 2007.

There are reports that other NBA owners asked NBA Commissioner, Adam Silver to step in with the regard of the direction of the Philadelphia Sixers.

My thoughts on this are that first this was a great hire. Colangelo is a basketball mind that the Sixers certainly didn't have, Hinkie is just "numbers guy" and owner Joshua Harris is a businessman that quite frankly probably doesn't care about the team because he never shows his ugly face and he probably never attends any games if he does its rare. I prefer an owner that cares about the team like Ed Snider the Owner and Chairman of the Philadelphia Flyers, or Jerry Jones, Cowboys' Owner/President/General Manager or Mark Cuban the Owner of the Dallas Mavericks

Second, Colangelo can help with the "process" by helping Hinkie with the player personal moves by possibly being in some players that can actually play. He's here to give the team a better direction and future (hopefully). He has history of rebuilding teams, just like he did it in Phoenix. He has relationships with a lot of the players in the league so that;s a major plus as he can help being some in maybe.

Third, let's face it the Sixers weren't really moving in the right direction with Sam Hinkie making personal decisions. He has made some questionable moves in the last three years as GM. He traded Michael Carter-Williams this past February (last season) before the trade deadline after he had won rookie of the year the prior season and now we don't have a point guard. He drafted Joel Embiid knowing he was injured and would be out for the season, he traded for Nerlens Noel who was coming off an ACL injury knowing he would be sitting out his rookie year however, that's turn out to be a decent deal. Drafting Embiid has turn out to be a failure because he hasn't played a game for them and he got drafted two years ago. Not sure if he will ever play for the Sixers.

Fourth, I think there's a very good chance that Sam Hinkie may not be working for the Sixers this time next season. I don't think he's gonna get fired right now. I think they (Colangelo & Harris) will be thinking long and hard throughout the rest of the season and make a decision of Hinkie's future in the off-season. I wouldn't be shocked if he got fired or they agreed to "part ways."And Colangelo brought in his own GM that might lead into a being in a new coach. I would hate for Brett Brown to get canned but it's very good possibility, this isn't his fault he got put in this position.

Finally, I love this move/hire this can only help the "process." As I said before he knows what it takes to build a successful team. I'm very much looking forward to the future and seeing what he can being. I maybe getting my hopes up to much but that's really the only thing I could do as the Sixers haven't been relevant for nearly decade since they traded Allen Iverson in 2006 and when Larry Brown resigned after the 2003-2004 season. I really went to enjoy watching the Sixers again but they are hard to watch. However, they do fight and play hard every games. I do try and watch them.
