Who is the NFL's best running back?

Even though today's NFL is a pass first league, most teams still need to have a good running back for their offense to be as productive as possible. Teams look for a player that is able to not only run the ball effectively, but is a good receiver out of the backfield and able to protect the quarterback when needed. So, who is the best running back in today's NFL?

1. David Johnson

David Johnson came out of nowhere last year late in the season after an injury to starter Chris Johnson and he hasn't given up the top spot in the Cardinals backfield yet. As of now, he is tied for the most rushing touchdowns in the league and is third in yards behind only DeMarco Murray and Ezekiel Elliott in that category. He has recorded 28 receptions for 323 yards while being good in pass protection. He is my pick for top back in the league, but not by much.

2. LeVeon Bell

When healthy, LeVeon Bell is close behind David Johnson as the top all-around back. There is a noticeable difference when he is on the field in the Steelers offense. Opposing defenses have to account for him on all plays no matter what. He is able to make an impact every time he touches the ball. The only thing that is keeping him back is his health and his behavior off of the field as he has missed 16 games in his first three and a half seasons.

3. Ezekiel Elliott

Even though he is only a rookie, Ezekiel Elliott has made an impact running behind one of the best offensive lines in football. Through the first seven weeks, Elliott has led the league in rushing even though he had a slow start to the season averaging 2.6 yards on 20 carries in the first game of the season against the New York Giants. He will only get better as his career progresses as both a runner and a receiver.
