Forecasting The 2018 Ryder Cup Rosters

The Ryder Cup is creeping closer and closer and the teams are starting to take shape. The Ryder Cup returns to European soil at Le Golf National in France and it will start on September 28th. Here is how the eight spots would look right now through the point systems.

United States: Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed, Justin Thomas, Bubba Watson, Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler, Bryson DeChambeu.

First, I am pretty certain that those first seven names on that list will be playing in France. The only one that is in doubt is the final spot in Bryson DeChambeu. DeChambeu holds a narrow lead over Webb Simpson and Phil Mickelson.

Captains Pick (USA): Each team will be given four captain picks along with the eight men that qualified through the point system. I am going off the point system as off right now so I'll:give DeChambeu the the eight spot.

Phil Mickelson: Lefty will be playing on this years Ryder Cup team weather he gets into the top 8 or is a captains pick. He finally ended his winless streak this year and is top 10 on the FedEx Cup. Plus, he played extremely well in his last Ryder Cup match when him and Sergio Garcia both shot 63 and halved their match.

Matt Kuchar: He's not having his best year on tour, but he's still very consistent in his game and he's missed just two cuts in the last year and a half. His 6-7-2 Ryder Cup record isn't anything stunning, but you would be hard pressed to find a better choice than Kuchar. He was a captains pick in 2016 and has been on the last 4 Ryder Cup teams.

Webb Simpson: He's having a great year and is up to #20 in the official world golf rankings. In the three biggest events played this year he's won The Players (Blew the field away), finished 10th at the U.S. Open, and 20th at The Masters....not to bad. The only concerning part was his role in the 2014 Ryder Cup. Simpson reportedly begged Captain Tom Watson for the final captains pick and Watson went with Simpson in the end. The 2014 Ryder Cup was European blowout and Simpson only played two matches which later resulted in him calling the 2014 Ryder Cup a "terrible experience."

Xander Schauffele: You could go with a couple of different choices with this one. I narrowed it down to Schauffele and Kevin Na, but at the end of the day Schauffele has been more consistent, and I'm not sure if Na would enjoy playing the raucous Ryder Cup crowd. I'm sure Na would love to play, but I think I would go with the younger Schauffele. Jim Furyk is going to have a tough choice with this one.

Europe does their qualifications a little different. They take only the top 4 from the point system, and then they take the remaining top 4 from the world rankings.

Team Europe: Tyrrell Hatton (points), Justin Rose (points), Tommy Fleetwood (points), Francesco Molinari (points), Jon Rahm (World Ranking), Alex Noren (World Ranking), Rory McIlroy (World Ranking), Paul Casey (World Ranking)

Captains Picks (Europe): I think Thomas Bjorn has a lot easier choice for his captains picks as of right now. Three of these should be locks and the fourth one is between just two players.

Sergio Garcia: He is a lock because of how good he plays in the Ryder Cup and he is still a pretty good player ranking 19th in the world.

Henrik Stenson: Another lock based off of just pure talent. He finished 5th in The Masters and 6th in the US Open this year. He's 17th in the world, two spots behind Molinari who holds that final spot via the world rankings. Weather he qualifies or is a captains pick, I assure you Stenson will be in this years match.

Rafa Cabrera Bello: Another lock based off of talent. He's too good to be left off of this team. He's having one of his better years as well and is up to 25th in the world rankings. Also, Cabrera Bello and Sergio Garcia were a pretty good pairing at the 2016 Ryder Cup.

Ian Poulter: There are two people you could throw into this final spot, Poulter or Matt Fitzpatrick. As much as I wanted to throw Fitz in here I went with Poulter. Poulter is having one of the best years of his career, and much like Garica, he has dominated the USA in the Ryder Cup.
