Why Not To Listen To Music While Running?

“Running is nothing more than a series of arguments between the part of your brain that wants to stop and the part that wants to keep going.”

Running is considered to be one of the best exercise to do. It teaches you so many things while making sure your health gets the benefits. It makes your bone stronger and increases your stamina. It has been as old as the humanity goes back in time.

Lately with the advent of smartphone and mp3 players, many people tend to go running while stuffing earphones in their ears.

Sure it does give you a kick to your mojo and may even help you get over that bump or pump you harder to cover an extra mile, but it simply makes you not be in tune with your body. It takes away all the attention that you should have otherwise put on your body.

It all boils down to your focus and willpower. Most runners listen to music in the first place so they could put their focus on the road ahead, while trying hard to stretch that extra mile. It works! But you are missing something here.

“No. The sound of your feet hitting the ground should be all the music you need.”

There are many disadvantages of running while listening to music. You can get rolled down by a car or any vehicle. It is bound to happen because you won’t be aware of what vehicle is coming from behind.

There is high chance that an old friend wishes to join you for a run but you miss the chance because of the stuff ringing your eardrums. When listening music, all you care is to get your target done no matter what. You may thus even break traffic rules.

We have seen people buying separate multi media players that have bluetooth connectivity and they are not as cheap as they look. So now you end up having an extra investment.

There is an emotion a runner creates when he listen to the tap between his legs and the ground. You should be focussing more on that kick.

Most of us start our run because we want to spend some alone time with our body. These are the types of runs which should be honoured and the ones that really matter.

Reasons

  • Can make you unaware of your surroundings.
  • Miss out on people trying to catch up with you.
  • You may end up breaking traffic rules
  • Not able to focus on understanding how your body responds
  • You may be pushing way beyond your limits

We hope it is clean as to why you should be running more without listening to any music. Just enjoy all that goes around you and inside you when you run. It is about the experience which you will muster everyday.

Though it is understood that not all the runs will be done without listening to any music.

Initially you can start with fewer runs and slowly increasing the number of times you go running without listening to any music. We wish you a happy running filled with immense joy of enjoying your surroundings.
