Oculus Rift: The future of watching your favorite team?

Everyone who has been to pro sports game knows the triumphant feeling of being in the stadium among other fans, watching your team make the winning shot, goal, touchdown, or home run. People who are lucky enough to live close enough to their favorite team and are able to buy tickets have the luxury of being able to attend at least a game a season.

But what about people who are diehard sports fans but live on the other side of the country or even on a different continent. If you are lucky enough you might be able to watch the game with cable or even online and that works for a lot of people.

There are still some though who do not have access to watch their team's game or some who feel that watching a game on the TV screen just it's as immersive at actually being there. There's a possible solution for these problems, imagine you put a headset to watch your favorite team play expect you aren't just watching you are experiencing the game in virtual reality, and as you turn your head the screen moves along with you allowing you to look around the entire stadium.

The Oculus Rift is one of the few virtual reality headsets that exist, along with virtual reality headset from companies like Microsoft and Sony. These headsets are currently in the beta testing phase so that improvements can be made before it is released to the public. It is expected for these VR headsets to become available to consumers in a couple years.

While most of the headset use is aimed at video games there are people who also believe this could used for things like education, and among many other things. Imagine places like a sports bar where instead of watching the game on TV where you can put on a VR headset even with your friends and experience the stadium as if you were sitting there. Or even experience a game from the point of view of the player.

The possibilities are endless for the uses of the Oculus Rift and other VR headsets. This could very well be the future of watching all kinds of sports. When we get there I know I will be looking forward to try it out to so that I may experience the future!
