JSU beats rival Alcorn State

Jackson State began their three game home series versus Division rival Alcorn State with a solid 9-4 victory Friday evening at Brady Field.

It was a solid night of pitching from the Tiger’s bullpen which allowed 8 hits and only 4 runs with nine combined strikeouts. Sophomore Pitcher Nikelle Galatas (4-3) led the charge allowing only 6 hits and 4 runs with 6 strikeouts during 6 strong innings pitched after shaking off two allowed home runs early in the ball game.

Junior Infielder Chris Prentiss went 2 of 4 at the plate scoring 2 runs and driving in an RBI while Senior Outfielder Dezmond Chumley hit a 2-run RBI double late in the eight to ensure further distance after going scoreless for four innings despite being up 7-4.

The Tigers advance their overall record to 12-17 overall and 5-5 in SWAC Play while Alcorn State Braves fell to 6-18 overall and 1-8 in conference play. The series continues at 1pm on Saturday afternoon
