JSU handles Russ College in doubleheader

Jackson State completed a three game home sweep of Russ College with emphatic 15-1 and 15-4 victories in the double header matchups of the series.

In game two, the Tigers bullpen allowed only three combined hits in seven innings played led by Junior Pitcher Harry Colon (1-0) and Junior Pitcher Mario Lopez.

Out at bat, Junior Jaylyn Williams went 3 for 4 at the plate scoring three runs and driving in an RBI while Junior Outfielder Equon Smith scores two runs and drove in an RBI on a 3 for 4 plate appearance as well. The Tigers offense amassed 9 runs in the first three innings to ensure a massive victory of 15-1 in only 7 innings played.

In game three, Senior Pitcher Garth Cahill (3-1) threw five strong innings allowing only two hits, and 0 runs while striking out four batters in an incredible pitching performance. Junior Infielder Wesley Reyes and Junior Catcher Stan Nastari both homered in the third and sixth inning respectively as the Tigers scored the first 15 runs of the game before winning in 7 innings 15-4. Raul Hernandez went 2 for 2 at the plate while Senior second baseman Tyler Culpepper went 3 for 4 at bat driving in two runs and scoring two runs.

The wins push the Tigers closer to .500 as they stand 17-18 in overall play. Their next game will be another non-conference home matchup against Tougaloo before they return back to SWAC Play.
