Do the Panthers Have the NFL's Best Backfield?

In past years, the Panthers have struggled whenever Jonathan Stewart was injured. Now they have one of the most stacked backfields in the NFL. They have a unique combination of thunder and lightning or power and speed, that will tear apart NFL defenses this season.

Jonathan Stewart has been one of the better backs in the league since taking over for Deangelo Williams left town. However, he has had a lotof problems staying healthy over the years. This caused the run game to fizzle out most seasons.

Now the Panthers have a new back to take the pressure off of Stewart. McCaffrey has been flashing great potential during training camp after coming close to winning the Heisman at Stanford. His career will probably follow in the same arc as Tiki Barber or Warrick Dunn. He will start as the compliment to Jonathan Stewart and the receiving back before taking over the backfield.

Stewart should stay healthier now with a back that can help to fully shoulder the load. Combine this with lightning quick ability of McCaffrey and the solid run blocking of Darrell Young, and the Panthers could easily rack up 2000 yards on the ground this season. This could be exactly what the Panthers need to get back to the playoffs and potentially make a run.
