Have the Chargers Found Their Heir?

The Los Angeles Chargers made a trade last week that barely made a blip on the news radar. However, it has the potential to shape the future of this franchise. They traded a conditional pick for former fourth round pick Cardale Jones of the Buffalo Bills.

Jones flashed his potential when he led the Ohio State Buckeyes to a College Football Playoff Championship victory in 2014 before struggling in his season as a starter in 2015. Jones showed that he has all of the tools but needs to figure out the mental part of the game.

Now he will be able to learn from Phillip Rivers who looks like he may only have a few years left. Rivers has been known to be one of the smartest and most knowledgeable players in the league. If Jones can learn from Rivers, then he may be able to turn into the next starting quarterback for the Chargers.

Jones has all of the tools to become the next Cam Newton or Brett Favre but he needs to learn to take care of the ball and read defenses better. This trade could end up being a steal for the Chargers if he reaches his potential or it could just be another nothing trade that doesn't even register on the NFL radar.
