[1.] LSU fired Head Coach Les Miles on Sunday, who went 114-34 (.770) in his 12 years with the team, winning 2 SEC Championships and a National Championship. Les Miles doesn't plan on giving coaching a quit any time soon though, and LSU has many options to choose from. Who do you think is the best option for LSU's next Head Coach, and where do you think Les Miles will end up?
Alex Mach - I don't think Les should have been fired the way he was. That being said, I don't think Les will have a HC job this year. But at the end this year he will have plenty of offers to take over. And LSU will probably continue with their current coach. It's hard to replace a HC in the middle of the season.
Brandon Haynes - I believe Herman would be a great choice for LSU. LSU has so many people on it’s list right now of “Candidates” but most of them are already coaches of Power 5 Conference teams. The one that isn’t.. Herman. Yes Houston has a lot of recruiting ground in Texas, but let’s not forget that LSU is a Power 5 team, a SEC team, and is the biggest team in Louisiana plus you know they have the money. If LSU doesn’t get Herman then I could see Briles because of how he did with Baylor and the fact he coaching isn’t anywhere currently. As far as Les Miles goes I honestly don’t know where he will go yet, but he can still do great things for a program.
Jacoby - I see art briles as the perfect option. Although I don't doubt todd herman will get a call; I know Todd Herman will stay at Houston. Herman has a recruiting gold mine in Houston and already has a solid playoff worthy team. In addition if Houston joins the big 12 next season he will get a gigantic pay raise so many may not be a deal breaker. On the other hand, Art Briles made Baylor the solid program it is and definitely has more than enough resources to do it again in Baton Rouge. I see Art Briles and his amazing spread offense as the perfect choice for the Tigers.
Jackson Popkin - Tom Herman has to be the top choice, with Houston’s constant and dominant success. Another option, in my opinion, is PJ Fleck from Western Michigan. He’s turned the Broncos around into a very good football team that has a very good shot at the MAC title. Unfortunately for WMU, he’ll most likely be picked up soon as is the norm with successful G5 coaches. One common suggestion for Miles’ destination is Herman’s seat at Houston, if in fact Herman does end up going to a larger school.
Joey Page - I can guarantee you Tom Herman will be receiving a call very soon. He said he loves Houston and would only leave if it was a “dynamic” choice but LSU is a pretty big name school.. I think Orgeron for now but this offseason could hold many things. As for Miles, who knows? I bet you half the NCAA would love to have him there's really no telling where he'll end up.
Konner Metz - I'm not really sure. I don't think Ed Orgeron is the answer. I would've liked to see more gutsy moves out of Les Miles. It was like he didn't know his job was the line. He just did the same old thing as 2015. With this said, there needs to be a dynamic change within the program. Tom Herman and Jimbo Fisher will get calls, but I doubt they leave their schools. Then again, Art Briles is a free agent and I don't see many big-name contemplating him. Maybe? We will see.
[2.] Lamar Jackson and No. 3 Louisville are 1st in Total Offense, have went 4-0 scoring an average of 63.5 points a game, and destroyed the No. 2 team Florida State in a 63-20 win at home. But now the Cardinals are heading to Death Valley to play DeShaun Watson and No. 5 Clemson whose ranked 5th in Total Defense and nearly caused a shutout in Atlanta last week. The winner of this game probably wins the ACC and gets a spot in the CFB Playoff. Who will win and by how much?
Alex Mach - I can see Clemson stepping up on defense and slowing down the Cardinals. The Tigers have to slow them down enough there's no stopping that offense. UL defense has been sad even Marshall has opened up on it. Clemson should finish by a 10-13 point win. 31-41 Clemson.
Brandon Haynes - Surprisingly it seems I am one of two taking Louisville. Clemson underperformed the first few weeks against a struggling Auburn team and Troy. They looked a little better in Week 4 in Atlanta, but they still haven’t played any team worth noting. Louisville on the other hand did play Florida State and beat them in good fashion. Not only that but Louisville hasn’t even began to struggle with getting the ball moving and scoring points. I know this Clemson defense is good, but I’m talking the Cardinals. Louisville - 31 Clemson - 28
Jacoby - I'm still nice convinced by Louisville. I've seen that high powered offense, however Clemson is built for these type of games. This Clemson tigers team is full of experience and it would be shocking if they lost this game at home. However, if Louisville somehow defeated Clemson i may not be convinced they're heading to the “CFB Playoff” with big games @ Houston and ACC Championship remaining. Clemson wins 31-21
Jackson Popkin - Clemson, while having close calls in their last two, hasn’t lost a home game in nearly three years, and dropped only two since 2011. Louisville and their number one offense come into Death Valley on a roll- no, a tear- and I think they’ll come out with a solid win, running past the Tigers for a 35-28 victory.
Joey Page - I highly doubt Clemson to be slow out of the gates on offense like we have saw for half the season, Deshaun Watson has a knack for doing great when the Tigers need him most. I think he'll come through here but the real battle is the UL offense vs the Clem defense we all know this. Lamar Jackson is great but can he handle the best defense he'll play in the regular season? Can he handle one of the loudest stadiums in the country? I don't think he will have another field day. 38-30 Clemson
Konner Metz - I think Louisville will be caught off-guard by a Clemson team with a boatload of things to prove. Dabo Swinney will have this squad locked and loaded, Deshaun Watson will blow up against a mediocre Cardinals defense, and Clemson will rout Louisville in a win that sends shockwaves throughout the nation. Clemson 41 L’Ville 17.
[3.] The Vols are undefeated and although they didn't look good their first few games, they did last week. No. 11 Tennessee was rumored to win the SEC East or even the SEC Championship this year, that possibility still remains after defeating the now No. 23 Florida Gators, and snapping their 11 year losing streak. The Vols still have many games to go including this week against No. 25 Georgia in Athens and later in the year against No. 1 Alabama (who they have a 10 game losing streak against) at home. Will Tennessee win the East or even the SEC, or will they fail to make it once again?
Alex Mach - Tennessee will win the SEC East. They won't haven't much competition winning the East like Florida last year but Alabama will more or less destroy Tennessee if we see them play like they have thus first 4 weeks.
Brandon Haynes - With how the Dawgs have been looking this season and with the O line looking terrible I can’t say they have a very good chance of winning. Tennessee looked bad at the beginning but has progressively looked better. With the style offense Tennessee runs, Georgia should be able to stop them a lot easier than they could Ole Miss, and with Tennessee’s O-line not allowing Dobbs much time in the pocket or giving Hurd good enough blocks I could see Georgia taking a W. Will it be easy? No. Is it possible? Yes.
Jacoby - This Tennessee team has shown so much resiliency. More than I've ever seen from the volunteers program. I don't question if Tennessee will make the SEC Championship in Atlanta, but I do question if they will happily be signing ‘rocky top’ after that game.
Jackson Popkin - The Vols have built up plenty of momentum in their last few, bouncing back from week one and mostly cruising to 4-0. This should propel them past their next two games, and Alabama will be quite the roadblock. Tennessee is easily in reach of the East, but claiming the SEC title will be a much harder challenge.
Joey Page - Tennessee will beat UGA and take the SEC East but let's be honest. That's not a huge accomplishment. No way they beat Alabama in the championship unless they out of nowhere start to click. You're not gonna have a 2nd half comeback against Nick Saban
Konner Metz - The Vols have a pretty easy path towards the SEC East Title now that Florida is in their rearview mirror. I believe they take down Georgia and coast to the championship game, in which they lose to Alabama for the second time of the year.
[4.] There really aren't 4 Teams that everyone knows will make it this year to the playoff. Right now the Top 4 teams are Alabama, Ohio State, Louisville, and Michigan in that order with the runner up being Clemson. With more division games coming up this year though including this week's matchup of #3 Louisville against #5 Clemson and #4 Michigan (who also has to play #2 Ohio State later this year) against #8 Wisconsin, can two team from one conference make the playoff, will Houston shine and make it above a power 5 team or will Stanford or Washington come through? Who makes the playoff and why?
Alex Mach - It's very unlikely for 2 teams from the same conference to make it. You'd need the other teams from 3+ to not impress this year and you need the highest ranked teams to lose the championship. And in the Michigan vs Ohio state game if they both come out undefeated into the final game the only way the other makes it is if the loser gets beat by a last 2nd play or maybe 3 pts or less.
Brandon Haynes - I don’t see teams in the same conference making but if things go well for 2 ACC or Big Ten teams and not so well for Houston or the Pac-12 then you could see it Happen. My prediction right now is Alabama, Michigan, Louisville, and Houston.
Jacoby - I don't really see any possible scenario where two teams from the same conference advance to the playoffs. Reason being even if Ohio state and Michigan do great and go into the final game undefeated, they are in the same division of the big 10, therefore one of them would not make the big 10 championship which should definitely be a huge killer for one of those programs. Without a doubt, if the Houston cougars defeat Louisville in a couple of week at home they will undoubtedly be in the College Football playoff.
Jackson Popkin - Nope, two similarly-conferenced teams making the playoff looks highly unlikely as of now. I like Houston and Stanford, and they’ll come very close if they don’t sneak in. Clemson-Louisville will have a major repercussion on the standings this week, as well as the Badgers visiting Michigan. Bama seemingly has a playoff spot in the bag, the winner of Clemson-Louisville and, later, Ohio State-Michigan, will have a leg up in the rankings.
Joey Page - The only scenario that 2 teams from the same conference gets in is Louisville and Clemson or Ohio St. and Michigan but you'd have to have the Pac-12 Champ with 2 losses or just be under impressing and Houston needs at least one loss. I doubt this happens but Houston can go undefeated this season, count them in.
Konner Metz - Two teams from the same conference will not make the CFP barring a typhoon combines with a Category 5 hurricane as a tornado rolls through the college football landscape. I really, really believe in Greg Ward Jr., Tom Herman, and the Houston Cougars. Therefore, I'm taking them to win against Louisville later this year. But for current purposes, I think Bama, Clemson, Houston, and Michigan/Ohio State make the playoff. Although I like Stanford, the Cardinal have a brutal in-conference schedule.
[5.] No 4. Michigan is playing its fifth straight home game, and No. 8 Wisconsin is the first ranked opponent they'll face. No. 8 Wisconsin destroyed No. 17 Michigan State, who was ranked 8th at the time by a score of 30-6 and they deserve more credit than they have been given.
Can Wisconsin beat Michigan at home and shock everyone, or will Michigan take the W and continue to battle with it's biggest rival Ohio State for "Top Dawg" of the B1G?
Alex Mach - Michigan can win but they cannot underestimate a solid team. We saw week 3 Michigan fight for their team's season as the Colorado Buffalo put up a fight. Michigan hurt the opposing qb and their offense stalled. Wisconsin is a solid team but they aren't the best. They almost lost to a not so great FBS team. They maybe given more credit than deserved but so are most teams early in the season.
Brandon Haynes - Wisky shouldn’t be overestimated, but they also had it easy with Michigan State. All of their touchdowns except one against MSU came from less the 30 yards out. I believe Michigan makes it 5-0 on the season because of their defense and stays the number 4 team in the country, while Wisconsin takes it first loss.
Jacoby - First off, Georgia state is an FBS school @Alex Mach. Next off, like Alex said, Wisconsin cannot be underestimated. They're a solid team. However in the end Michigan should and will beat the badgers. In addition as of now in my opinion Ohio state is still and will be the top dawg until the big meeting at the horseshoe in November.
Jackson Popkin - UGA and GT aren’t the only FBS teams in Georgia. With that out of the way… Michigan and Wisconsin have both had close calls recently. But, like Tennessee, they use it as motivation and push themselves harder to get a better result in the next game and prove their worth. I don’t think the Badgers have much of a chance against the Wolverines in the Big House, and a win for them would be massive. Michigan and Ohio State is a game that is marked on calendars across the country, and it’ll continue to keep it’s value until gameday.
Joey Page - Wisconsin gained a lot of respect for me this season after destroying Michigan St. but I don't believe they can go into the Big House and beat this solid Michigan team they'll put up a fight but in the end Michigan is just the better team. Home-Field advantage helps too.
Konner Metz - Michigan can definitely win. Will they? Well only Mr. Mach can give you a confident answer for that. But we all know he's been wrong many times before (talking about your Cardinals this past week). In all seriousness, I believe this is a trap game for Wisconsin. They could be looking at a big deficit heading into halftime if they become caught up in their massive win against MSU. But if they can hand with the Wolverines, a good game could be in store. I'm just having trouble envisioning a situation in which Wisky pulls out a win. Then again, after LSU’s national championship, I didn't envision Les Miles being fired because of one mere second. And we all know what happened…
