The Reds and Orioles engaged in another pitching battle Thursday night, but once again Baltimore came out on top 2-1 in an extra inning affair and winning the series.

The Orioles drew first blood as in the second inning, Jonathan Schoop hit a long fly ball into the left field seats to make it a 1-0 ball game. Cincinnati had been held hitless until the fourth inning when Joey Votto hit a tower fly ball into center field for game tying solo shot to make it 1-1. That would be all the scoring until the tenth inning when Baltimore’s J.J. Hardy lined a base hit to left center field to score the game winning run for the Birds.

Reds starter Scott Feldman did not receive a decision as he pitched seven innings allowing one run on four hits while striking out four. Blake Wood (1-1) suffered his first loss of the season after giving up the game winning hit to Hardy. Orioles starter Wade Miley was impressive despite getting a no decision as he went eight innings allowing one run on two hits while striking out 11 and walking one. Darren O’Day (1-1) earned the win while Brad Brach picked up his second save of the season.

Cincinnati will finish up their homestand with a three game series this weekend as they host the Chicago Cubs. The Reds will trot out Tim Adleman (0-0, 2.25) while the Cubs will counter with Jon Lester (0-0, 1.00).
