Little Wound topples St. Francis to tip off 2016 season

Isaac Walker and Tex Janis tipped off the 2016 high school boys basketball season in style Friday in St. Francis.

Well, well, well, high-school hoops, welcome back, we've missed you. Wow, really good game in St. Francis last night as Little Wound pulled ahead late to earn a 79-70 win. While the final margin might say a nine point differential, St. Francis trailed 71-65 but missed a couple of open threes that could have tightened this one considerably.

Not going to recap the game but let a few pictures do the talking with a summary at the end!

Man, the Eastman fella looked good in the junior varsity game.

Every game was good last night...C game went to overtime, junior-varsity was competitive with Little Wound winning.

The Warriors coming out for the 2016 season..Boom!

Little Wound coming off the court after the pre-game huddle at mid-court of the Warrior dome.

Little Wound sophomore, Tex Janis, and company boxing out.....Little Wound so much longer than I thought they would be....Had a nice effort from at least nine deep in the varsity game.

Which Witt is Which....Shane is No. 3 and wears red shoes...Shane is No. 3 and wears red shoes.

Always a good time at St. Francis Indian School....

Little Wound senior, Robert Shangreaux was really good Friday night, slashing to the hoop and getting out in transition for the Mustangs.

Ty Arcoren slides it in for two points despite the defense from Little Wound's, Michael Brave. Mr. Brave was really, really good last night, snapping off some deep threes, and getting after in on the defensive side of the ball. DEEP, treys.

Great opener for both teams. That was a competitive game through the first half with Little Wound edging ahead in the third to extend to double-digits. That said, 71-65 with a made three woulda made things interesting.

Couple thoughts on Little Wound:

1. Is Little Wound coach, Jay Jacobs really a Chiefs fan....Boo! Fresh off beating my Raiders there was Jacobs sporting some Chiefs gear prior to the game.

2. Little Wound was really big and deeper than I expected. Everyone that came off the bench contributed and got after it defensively.

Little Wound went home, slept fast and gets ready for Crow Creek today.
