Kyle O'Quinn getting traded to the Warriors?
Its that time of year. We are nearing the February deadline and with the Knick's playoff hopes dwindling with each loss, there have been lots of interest from other teams in the Knicks players. One rumor is Kyle O'Quinn to the Warriors.
Starting center Enes Kanter and backup center Kyle O'Quinn also have received interest from opposing executives, sources said, with members of the Golden State Warriors among those executives to express interest in 27-year-old big man O'Quinn.
"O'Quinn has certainly outperformed his contract," said David Jacober, a strategic planning consultant for NBA teams. "His diversity on offense makes him attractive to a number of teams, such as Houston and Golden State."
Hernangomez, though, might bring back more value than Kanter or O'Quinn because of his age and contract. Both Kanter ($18.6 million) and O'Quinn ($4.2 million) have player options for next season; executives around the league expect O'Quinn to decline the option and test free agency this summer.
This move makes sense for the Warriors as they get another versatile Big with passing and rebounding abilities, very similar to Jordan Bell. For the Knicks with a log-jam at center, this move would clear the path for Hernangomez to be part of the rotation.
In terms of the actual deal, not sure they can get a 1st round pick but I am sure they would consider trading Patrick McCaw, who is in his last year of a contract and would cost them some money this summer that they may not want to spend. McCaw has shown flashes of promise, despite playing sparingly. He also fits the Knicks movement of getting younger and fits a need on the wing, with the ability to play some point. We are still in January but expect more rumors as the Knicks will be big players at the deadline.
