Patrick Cromwell - 3B - Senior - Clemson

A 6'2 180 lb. third baseman, Cromwell transferred to Clemson from Santa Ana College (CA) for the 2017 season. He won the starting job out of the gate, but seemed to be overmatched by ACC pitching and was relegated to a part-time role. Cromwell got off to a blazing start to the 2018 season, but has since cooled to a .243/.371/.361 with 5 HR's and a 0.67 walk-to-strikeout ratio through 206 plate appearances.

Cromwell has a good approach at the plate, and though he is primarily a singles and doubles type hitter, he has a good feel for the barrel. He also has some room to add strength and weight to his frame, potentially enabling him to tap into a little more power and hit the ball with more authority. Defensively, Cromwell has an average arm and can make all of the plays at third base.

The main knock against Cromwell right now is that he has yet to prove that he can perform at a high level over a full season against elite competition. He has shown flashes (both in 2017 and 2018) but hasn't been able to sustain the success. He also has 40-grade power as of now, though he could probably bump that up to a 45 after putting on some weight.

At one point in the season it looked like Cromwell was playing well enough to sneak into the first 10 rounds as a senior sign candidate, but he has since played himself out of that possibility. I still think he is a guy worth drafting in the later rounds this June, but it might take a strong finish to the season in order for that to happen.
