After Nate Karns was sent to the 10-day DL (retro-active to May 21st), the Royals were in need of a series finale starter in New York on Thursday. Miguel Almonte got the nod to face off against the bronx bombers in New York Thursday afternoon. The 24-year-old rookie has never made a start thus far in his short career. Almonte--who spent last season battling control issues in the minors--will be tasks with making his starting debut in the hitter-friendly Yankee stadium. The right hander from the Dominican Republic has made nine major league appearances all out of the bullpen; His first, and all, coming in September of 2015. Almonte is right up there in terms of top prospects for Kansas City despite his 2016 struggles. Miguel Almonte has rebounded nicely so far in 2017 with AA-Northwest Arkansas turning in a sub-2-ERA (1.86).

No matter what happens tonight, Almonte will either be going for a series win over New York or, to simply spit with the Yankees in this four game set.

As Nate Karns will be eligible to come off the DL on Wednesday, this will likely be the only spot start needed in place of Karns. However, Royals fans will get a glimpse of the hopeful future in starter Miguel Almonte in Thursdays matinee.
