DeRozan is playing well because he studied Team USA teammates during offseason

So, in the TV series From Dusk Till Dawn, there is this character named Richie Gecko. If you have ever watched the show (which is on Netflix), then you should be familiar with his powers. But here’s a quick overview for non-viewers. See, Gecko is a culebra (or vampire), and every time he eats (sucks the blood of) another supernatural being, he is able to absorb their abilities. So what does this character have anything to do with the NBA? Well, the Toronto Raptors DeMar DeRozan kind of have these “powers.”

If you have been paying attention to the NBA (or are just a Raptors fan), then you should be noticing that DeRozan is starting off this season outstandingly. He is currently averaging 34. 1 points per game on 53.3 field goal percentage. Additionally, he is leading the league in points per game.

According to Chris Mannix of The Vertical, the reason why the two-time All-Star guard is doing so well thus far is because he studied and copied his Team USA teammates’ habits and work ethic while they were playing together during the Rio Olympics.

“Like many, DeRozan benefited from his Olympic experience. He studied the work ethic of Kevin Durant, absorbed the confidence of Klay Thompson and Draymond Green, and took note of how hard Kyrie Irving works at getting better at finishing at the rim. He learned leadership, something he says he and [Kyle] Lowry strive to be better at every day.”

The Raptors are currently 5-2, and are fourth in the Eastern Conference. The season is still very young, so the team’s position will fluctuate. So here’s my question: If DeRozan stays healthy and continues to play well, what seed do you think the Raptors will land on at the end of the season? Share your thoughts in the comments.
