The MVP Race: LeBron James or Kawhi Leonard

Who will be the 2017 NBA MVP?

Could it be KD or Chef Curry? Kevin Durant and Steph Curry were the winners of the last three MVP races. But since Durant decided to join the Golden State Warriors in the offseason, many people believe they will cancel each other out, meaning they are going to take votes from each other and won’t end up with enough checkmarks.

There are some, like Warriors coach Steve Kerr, who think that the Portland Trailblazers’ Damian Lillard will take it this season. This is possible, but the Blazers may not win enough games for him to be considered part of the race.

And then there are Kawhi Leonard and LeBron James. In the first two games of the regular season, Leonard has been playing amazing (and his team has been winning too). With Tim Duncan gone, Leonard has taken over the role of top general in San Antonio, and is now running the team. In addition to that, he trained with future Hall of Famer Kobe Bryant over the summer, and from some of the plays in the past two games, you can see that he has absorbed some of Kobe’s game and mentality deep within his flesh.

As for LeBron, he is still doing what he does, and is still doing it very well. In the season opener, he recorded his first ever first game triple-double (19 points, 14 assists, and 11 rebounds). If he continues to play this (or better), he’ll (again) be part of the race.

But who will take this season? Check out what Coach Nick from BBallBreakdown has to say about it and then let me know what you think down in the comments:
