Friday Five: The Panic of the Playoffs
My goodness what the heck is going on? The playoffs have been bringing us nothing but madness and there looks like there will be no calm on the horizon.
1. The Sterling Shroud
People are funny, some are yelling that Sterling has to go and others are yelling he has the right to freedom of speech. You are both right! Sterling has the right to say and believe whatever he wants. But right now, Sterling is the guy who bit the hand that fed him. He doesn't want to associate with African Americans in public; now he doesn't need to because they, and a lot of other people, don't want to associate with him. Like Donald, the rest of the NBA has rights. The players don't want to work for him anymore and the other owners know he is hurting their product so they want him out of the club. Now, the NBA is expressing their rights and they are kicking Donald out.
2. Commissioner Silver
The man made a splash this week after a weak start on Saturday. Great move! Paraphrasing Stephen A. Smith; people said he had no choice but to ban Sterling for life, but Black America knows there is often still a wrong choice when we are discussing such matters.
Silver got it right and has cemented himself into the position now. (One of Bud the Dud's first acts was to cancel the World Series!)
3. Hibbert
Two games without a point or rebound? Wow! He needs a psychologist in a bad way. He is his own worst enemy at this point (no pun intended). Last year, when Vogel put him on the bench during the last couple seconds of an Eastern Conference Final game we questioned him. Now we wonder why he would put the big man out there. Hibbert needs to shake this off before they find themselves out of the playoffs.
4. Game 7 Bonanza
We are in for a wild weekend of basketball and possibly a bunch of high seeds going home. Try to get some fresh air when you can because there is plenty of opportunity to be couch ridden. There are also a bunch of coaches playing for their jobs. Got to love it!
5. Mr. Unreliable?
Dead beat dads are unreliable. Dirty cops are unreliable. People who refuse to pay their bills are unreliable. Cheating lovers are unreliable. Kevin Durant has missed some shots but he has been there all year when others were not. He is a class act who does way too much for Oklahoma. Keep up that talk and he will become Mr. Free Agent.
*Raptor Watch*
I am drinking more and sleeping less. I try to speed up time in between games but when I watch the games I am unsure if what I am feeling is actually enjoyment. My hair has gotten greyer by the game and I am yelling more at my television. My heart hurts and I am always nervous. I love playoff basketball! (I am very proud of the Raptors, their effort, the fans! Keep it up and let's finish round one tonight!)
