It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

No, I am not losing my mind and despite the horrible weather in Seattle, I am well aware that it is March but for people like me, it really could not get much better.

First, it is March Break; that in itself is a reason to celebrate. I am so good at March Break. Sitting around and enjoying a few relaxing days makes for some happy times. Even as I write this, I have Pixels playing in the background. I am in complete relax mode.

Then, there is the promise of improving weather. While Seattle was bone chillingly cold, it is nice to know that warm days are ahead. I have even gone for runs with reasonable amounts of clothes on. It is good to know that summer and golf are right around the corner. As some of you make know, winter is the one season I am allowed to hate. I realize I am Canadian and all that but there is a reason I fell in love with basketball that is played in a warm gym. -25, no thank you. Give me positive temperatures any day!

Which brings me to the last wonderful reason; basketball and March Madness. Thursday, which was also St. Paddy's Day, was the beginning of the greatest tournament in the world. At noon, I planted myself on the couch and stayed there for too long. It is a never ending Christmas morning. Just when you open what seems to be the big gift, Duke vs UNCW, there is another waiting for you, Yale vs Butler, and then another, UNC vs FGCU, and other Providence vs USC, and another, Raptors vs Indiana (In Overtime) and that was just Thursday. Friday was much of the same. Wings and beer at the Oar House ushered in the late games before I drifted off into a basketball/beer/wing coma, in bed not at the bar this time. (For the record, I would love to open a geology bar named the Ore House.... it would rock.)

The weekend brings round two. Sixteen more games plus great NBA match-ups , it's the gift that keeps on giving. Thank you Angel Rodriguez for being such a class act.

The tournament also has many off-shoots:

• the Dan Lebatard What He Looks likeBracket

• my own tournament brackets (I have one that is in the 96th percentile and one that is in the 12th percentile... I'm a stupid genus... or a brilliant idiot.)

• the Tom Rinaldi narrated pieces that will make you move you in one way or another

• the million possible beaver vs rams jokes that could be made when Oregon State was playing VCU.

It has really been overwhelming, in a good way.

So if you need me, I will be on the couch. I might be cheering for Wichita State or Indiana. I will definitely be cheering for Yale to beat Duke. Allison just asked, "If I was just watching TV." Just? I don't understand.
