The Miami Dolphins Offense Should Be Blamed For The Defensive Struggles Not Ndamukong Suh

For most of the 2015 NFL season, the NFL media has been blaming Ndamukong Suh for the Miami Dolphins defensive struggles. When in reality, the Miami Dolphins offense has played a major part in why the defense is struggling. Thru 13 games this season, the Dolphins have become a one-dimensional, which has pushed their running game towards the background and relied on their passing game to move the chains. In fact, according to teamrankings.com the Dolphins have decreased the amount of carries per game by 4.5. In 2014 the Dolphins averaged 24.9 carries per game meanwhile in 2015 the Dolphins averaged 20.5 carries per game.

The downside to the Dolphins pushing their running game towards the background and relying on their passing game to move the chains is that the defense will be on the field more. In fact, the defense has been on the field for about 3 minutes more than they were last year as in 2014 they were on the field for 29:53 minutes meanwhile in 2015 they were on the field for 32:51 minutes. Since they’re on the field more, the defense is allowing more opponent yards per game due to fatigue. In 2014 the Dolphins allowed 343.4 opponent yards per game meanwhile in 2015 the Dolphins allowed 393.3 opponent yards per game. Until the Dolphins manage to increase their time of possession Ndamukong Suh and the defense will not preform much better.
