Oh, baby. Here we go again

It's back. It looks like the XFL is coming back!

It is not 100% official yet, but Vince McMahon is going in front of the media at 3 PM today to announce the return of his chaotic football league. In 1999, the WWE founder decided to shake things up in the sports world by getting into the pro football game. Apparently creating the biggest wrestling organization in the world was not enough for old Vince. Greedy bastard.

I think this steroid junkie has been stunnered one too many times and isn't thinking too clearly. That last hit by Stone Cold the other night at RAW's 25th Anniversary might have put him over the edge. Why now, Vince? Why bring the XFL back now? Maybe he's blown through all his wrestling money. Maybe he's looking for some extra cash to supply his 'roid addiction. Or maybe, he's just trying to cause a little bedlam.

I, for one, embrace the idea of the XFL coming back. Let me ask you a question...what is better than football? MORE FOOTBALL! Whenever the Super Bowl ends, I usually go through a 2-3 week period of turning on my TV on Sunday expecting to hear Joe Buck's boring ass voice or seeing Belichick stare down a reporter.

Then, I have to remind myself that the season is over and these 3 weeks are then followed by a state of football depression. I flip on some NBA TNT games but this doesn't help too much. The only true remedy is some over-the-top and violent wrestling that is masquerading as professional football. And that is exactly what the XFL provides to consumers. Because, let's be honest. The XFL did not produce quality football the first time around. It was all around shit, to put things mildly. Viewers realized this fairly quickly and that is why the ratings plummeted and the league only lasted one season.

I'll give you a great analogy that sums up the XFL for what it truly was/is. It's like when a guy breaks up with his long-time girlfriend, who was perfect for him in every single way (the NFL). Let's hypothetically call him Tyler. Tyler was getting tired of the same old thing and he decided he wanted to spread his wings a little bit. This guy tells his girl, "I'm a peacock, you gotta let me fly on this one!" So, after ending things with his top of the line girl, he rebounds with a knockout who on the surface appears to be a perfect 10 (the XFL). And after they have their fun for a little while, the show ends pretty quickly. Our clueless friend realizes this girl has no substance and only appeared great on the surface. To make matters worse, she only talks about wrestling! So he comes crawling back to his one-true love and begs for her forgiveness. It takes a little convincing and a great deal of "I was stupid", but she finally takes him back...and there you go. That is the story of the NFL and the XFL in a nutshell.

Hope you guys liked that nice little analogy. In reality, the very notion that Vince McMahon believes this time can be different is comical, to say the least. While I think it has the potential to last more than one season, I really do not think this comeback will be anything super successful. I'm all for sitting back and watching though.

To go back to my earlier point, I know true football guys will love the opportunity to watch pro football during the spring while it is the NFL off-season. It also gives us some new potential to bet on football! I can't wait to throw my entire life-savings on the New York Hitmen Moneyline beating the Los Angeles Xtreme. Please Vince, bring back those original and ridiculous team names. The world needs them again.

For those who do not know, these were the names of the XFL Teams

-New York/New Jersey Hitmen (Yes, they had both)

-Chicago Enforcers

-Orlando Rage

-Birmingham Thunderbolts

-Los Angeles Xtreme

-San Francisco Demons

-Memphis Maniax

-Las Vegas Outlaws

We are now just about an hour away from Vince's press conference. I am very excited about this comeback, even more so than Brett Favre's twenty-five comebacks.

Who knows, maybe Brett will come out of retirement for this!

I'm sure you can think of some other big names that could emerge as possible star players. Tim Tebow perhaps? Colin Kaepernick?

And of course, the main attraction...I can picture it now..the crowd going crazy.....the fans chanting his name. "Johnny! Johnny! Johnny!"

Where you at Manziel? This league was made for you.
