Cleveland Needs to Fix Things Before Playoffs

NBA: Cleveland Cavaliers at Los Angeles Lakers

The Cleveland Cavaliers received a rude awakening by the San Antonio Spurs last night. Cleveland lost the game 103-74. For the first time this season, the Cavaliers fell into the second seed in the east. Boston currently holds the number one seed by a half game.

The biggest issue with the Cavaliers right now is defense. They have allowed 106.8 PPG, which ranks 21st in the NBA. Cleveland has only one true rim protector in Tristan Thompson. The injury to Andrew Bogut is hurting this team on defense. Losing Timofey Mozgov in free agency in ways is also hurting them, but he wasn't worth the money.

Once again will the Cavaliers flip on the switch come playoff time on the defensive side of the ball. They also need to call up Larry Sanders and put him in the rotation.

The addition of Deron Williams has not helped this team at all. He looks washed up and I would rather see them play Kay Felder. Felder looks better on defense than Williams does.

Kyle Korver and Iman Sumpert are injured right now and they are key role players that Cleveland needs for a playoff run. Derrick Williams has also disappeared and he needs to pick up the slack again.

What needs to be fixed is simple: the defense, a better rotation, and play with a sense of urgency.

Cleveland can't afford to fall to a three or a four seed. They have 9 games remaining in the regular season.
