The New York Mets traded outfielder Jay Bruce to the Cleveland Indians for minor-league reliever Ryder Ryan. Ryan isn't even ranked in the Indians top 30 prospects and the Mets should be ashamed of themselves with this trade.

It is understandable to get rid of Bruce because his contract expires at the end of the season and there is nothing wrong with it. However, they didn't get squat in return for a player whose batting average is .256 with 29 homeruns and 75 RBI's. The Mets could have done a lot better with getting prospects in return.

New York denied a trade for Bruce before the trade deadline with the Yankees. According to Fox Sports Ken Rosenthal, if the Yankees had taken all of Bruce's $3.7 million, it could have cost the Mets $6 million.

However that's fine and reasonable, but the trade was more of a shock to a lot of people. Bruce will upgrade the Indians outfield tremendously and Michael Brantley was just placed on the disabled list.

According to MLB.com's Jordan Bastian, all Indians outfielders this season's batting average is a combined .276 with 38 homeruns. They have 151 RBI's, but the Indians lack power.

As for the prospect the Mets received, Ryan's record is 3-4 with a 4.79 ERA. In 41.1 innings, Ryan has walked 17 batters and struck out 49. Ryan has 6 saves in 10 tries this season.

Jay Bruce has a chance to win the world series with the Indians this season.
