Alex Ovechkin set the tone for the Washington Capitals 35 seconds into the game against their arch rivals the Pittsburgh Penguins. He scored his 1000th career point on a goal. They cruised past the Penguins 5 to 2.

Ovechkin also tallied another goal in the second-period. Justin Williams made it 3 to 0 in the third-period for the Capitals. Evgeni Malkin scored a power-play goal for the Penguins later.
