Roethlisberger Hinting at Retirement; If he Does Who Should Replace Him?

Greg M. Cooper-USA TODAY Sports

Ben Roethlisberger might have hinted to the Pittsburgh Steelers that he is considering retirement. He talked to 93.7 The Fan and made a comment about exploring all options this offseason. Roethlisberger isn't also committed to play in the 2017 season. Well that has put the Steelers on notice.

Head Coach Mike Tomlin, isn't surprised at all by this. Ben is 35 years old, and he has had many injures throughout is his career. Maybe the injuries have finally caught up to him. If he does decide to retire, Roethlisberger will have won 2 Super Bowls in his career.

He currently has a 94.1 passing rating, 64.1% completion percentage, 46,814 passing yards, 301 passing touchdowns and 160 interceptions in his career. The odds are very good he will probably be back this season but if he doesn't, he had a very good career and will probably be a hall of famer.

If he hangs up his cleats, who will be the quarterback in 2017? Well Landry Jones is a free agent and he hasn't prove enough to be the starter next season. Zach Mettenberger has one more year left on his contract but he isn't a starter in this league.

What would the options be then? They can draft a quarterback in the first or second round of the NFL Draft. Another option could be they could trade for Tony Romo but he mostly likely end up in Denver. If he does end up in Denver, they should ask the Broncos for Trevor Siemian.

He has proven he can throw the deep ball and the Broncos believe Paxton Lynch is the future so they wouldn't trade him. Another option could be trading for a A.J. McCarron (CIN), Jimmy Garoppolo (NE), or Mike Glennon (TB).

Steelers Wide Receiver Antonio Brown, has not caught a touchdown pass in his career other than Roethlisberger. If he doesn't come back next season, things will be very different in the Steel City. His leadership will also be missed if that is the case.
