Would The Rumors Of LeSean McCoy Coming Back To Philly Be A Smart Move?

There is no secret that right now that the Eagles are struggling in pre season with the run game.

The signing of LeGarrette Blount was mostly for the goal line, as you can see in the preseason already he can't even turn the corner up-field. He is more downfield, better play calling can get the most out of Blounts value to this team.

Darren Sproles is going to be in the game for 3rd downs, and screens to catch the ball with the aging back still having reliable hands with a sprinkle of punt returns, and kick returns mixed in. He was never a every down back, and his frame won't allow him too.

Wendell Smallwood hasn't even sniffed the field yet this preseason due to injuries, he has potential to be a stud, but he needs the reps to prove that. He is the wild card here though, because he had glimpses of tremendous plays last year in games.

The rookie Donnel Pumphrey has been a straight dud so far in the preseason. He has fumbled multiple times in the backfield, and also as a punt returner... He is struggling right now to even make the team.

Bryon Marshall has a touch down so far but that is really it. He has 7 carries for 27 yards giving him a 3.9 ypc. That isn't bad but the second year player out of Oregon needs to make more plays to even get a roster spot. In my opinion he is ranked higher the Donnel Pumphrey right now due to his fumbling problems.

Corey Clement the last of the running backs on the roster has had the best preseason out of them all. But that isn't saying much... He has 15 carries on 47 yards rushing with a long run of 24 yards with a td. He has also hauled in 4 catches for 37 yards with a long catch of 20 yards. He has big play ability coming out of Wisconsin where they always produce solid NFL running backs. He has some spunk with him, and a chip on his shoulder being an undrafted guy. Look for him to get more opportunities this preseason with 2 games remaining.

With all that being said....The running back committee is a big mess. They have some potential but nothing that will help this year, a mix of Blount, Sproles, and Smallwood is what the rotation will look like through out the season right now. Blunt will be the 1-2 down back with the goal line downs secured for him to plow in for tds. Sproles will have his own package of plays with screens, and routes. Smallwood will be in their from time to time to spell Blount. So can LeSean McCoy be the answer to all those problems?

Slow your roll. Shady is an absolute STUD. But the price the Philadelphia Eagles would have to pay for a 29 year old running back is just too high. The Bills most like would want draft picks, but the Eagles only have their first round pick next year in the first 3 rounds. And they certainly won't give the Bills that pick for Shady. He has an expensive contract as well, another reason why the Bills are listening to offers.

I don't think it is the best financial decision for the Eagles in the long run. It could be a short term solution, but it's just not worth it.

If Smallwood can stay healthy, and can give Blount some good insurance in running scenarios things might turn out well. That is a big IF, but it's a price that the Eagles will have to pay if they want to find more help in the other positions, and to resign free agents next year such as Alshon Jeffrey.
