Recruiting Profile: Tre' Shaw

Welcome to the recruiting profile series on Heel Tough Blog. This series will introduce the 2017 recruiting class week by week. The series begins with Tre’ Shaw, a cornerback from Ellenwood, GA. Shaw was a standout player for the Cedar Grove Saints, playing both cornerback and safety on defense and running back on offense during his high school career. His MaxPreps stats are flawed, seeing as how some games have no registered stats for Shaw. According to his MaxPreps stats, he only has one career interception, which is proved wrong just by watching his highlight tape.

On tape, Shaw shows some extremely promising things. Shaw’s highlight tape shows a lot of him at safety where he is extremely effective. Shaw displays a nose for the football and takes good angles to the ball carrier. He makes almost every tackle he should by tackling low . When at corner, Shaw showed he has great ball skills and good closing speed. Shaw was mostly a zone corner, but when he was tasked with being in man coverage, he frequently got his hands on receivers coming off the line. Offensively, Shaw showed the ability to separate when at receiver. When at running back, Shaw is shifty and finds way to slip through tackles.

Shaw committed to Carolina back on July 20th and stuck with that commitment, even through the departure of defensive back coach Charlton Warren, who left for Tennessee. Shaw enrolled at Carolina back on January 9th and is already going to class and participating in workouts. This will give Shaw an advantage over some of the other defensive back recruits who won't join the team until the fall. If Shaw can prove himself to coaches, he may see some playing time this upcoming season.
