Recruiting Profile: Kayne Roberts

The 2017 recruiting profile series continues as we meet Kayne Roberts. Roberts started playing football at the age of 5 and fell in love with the sport. He's an athlete who played both sides of the ball during his high school. Offensively, he was a standout at running back for Greenback High School in Greenback, TN. Unfortunately, Roberts has no recorded stats according to MaxPreps. Defensively, Roberts can play multiple spots, including linebacker, corner and safety. Roberts’ favorite memories from high school are his trips to the state title game both his junior and senior seasons.

On tape, Roberts looks impressive. As a running back, Roberts displays a physical running style, refusing to go down by keeping his feet moving. Roberts also showed some shiftiness, although it's not as flashy as some of the other backs in this class. Roberts had some flashes at receiver, but didn't see extended time there. On defense, Roberts spent most of his time as a hybrid linebacker and looked impressive. Roberts is a strong tackler and has a nose for the football. Roberts displays solid coverage skills that can be built upon.

When I asked Roberts why he chose Carolina, he told me that Carolina feels like home. He loves the environment and the people in Chapel Hill. The road wasn't easy for him to get to Chapel Hill. Coming from Greenback, getting recognized wasn't as easy as most recruits. Roberts will arrive in Chapel Hill in the fall and would like to play running back or corner, the two positions he likes playing the most.
