Tar Heel Pro Day Preview

On Tuesday, the next step towards an NFL career for this year's Tar Heel draft prospects will take place at Navy Field. Last year, Romar Morris made a name for himself on Pro Day, propelling himself up draft boards allowing him to eventually be signed by the New York Jets. Can one of this year's prospects make a name for himself tomorrow? Let's take a look at the prospects that will be on display.

Mitchell Trubisky

Trubisky looked very good in Indy with unfamiliar receivers catching the football. Now Trubisky is back on his own turf with his receivers. As long as Trubisky performs as well as he did in Indy, he should solidify himself as a day one selection.

Elijah Hood

Hood desperately needs a strong performance tomorrow after injury kept him out of the Combine. Following his underwhelming performance this season, Hood really needed to prove to scouts that he has the attributes to be an NFL running back. This will be his only real chance and he’s in need of a strong showing.

T.J. Logan

Logan did nothing but help himself in Indy and he can continue that upward trend. Logan is one of the few players who can sit out a few drills, but it's doubtful he will. If Logan has another strong performance tomorrow, he may continue his climb up draft boards.

Ryan Switzer

Switzer had a strong performance in Indy and will look to build on that. His focus will more than likely be to improve a little on his 40 time, but other than that catching the ball, which he does very well, will be key. Switzer can continue to make a name for himself among a packed slot receiver class.

Mack Hollins

Indy looked to be off to a good start for Hollins until he pulled up on his 40. That forced him to sit out the rest the of the drills. Tomorrow will be important for Hollins who not only has to prove his value as a receiver, but also as a special teams work horse. Hollins must run another quick 40 time and will have to show his value in drills such as the gauntlet and fly route drills. If Hollins performs admirably, he may begin pushing himself into early day three conversations.

Bug Howard

Howard had a good trip to Indy and looks to build off of that. He proved how strong his hands are by catching everything in the gauntlet. Another strong gauntlet and a solid 40 will continue strengthening the Bug Howard buzz.

Jon Heck

A shocking non-invitee to the Combine, Heck now get his first shot to prove himself to scouts. Heck should run a decent 40 time, but the drills will be important in his comparison to combine invitees. If Heck has a strong performance, he will be in the conversation to become a day two pick.

Lucas Crowley

Crowley is another prospect who gets his first opportunity to show scouts what he’s got. Crowley will not run a fast 40; he’s not supposed to. For Crowley, drills will be important, but meeting with scouts and getting his name on their brains may be even more important. If Crowley stands out, he could find his name being called late on day three.

Caleb Peterson

Peterson was lost to a back injury in October and there is no word on if he will participate in on-field drills. Interviews will be extremely crucial for Peterson, as he must prove that his injury issues in college should not be a concern at the next level. If he does, his tape is good enough to get him drafted.

Naz Jones

His performance in Indy was solid and he’ll hope to perform even better tomorrow. Jones will hope to prove in on field drills that he can be more than just a 3-technique. If he can do so, he maybe a solid day two selection.

Mikey Bart

Bart gets his first shot in front of scouts. Bart is in the most loaded position group maybe in this entire draft, so making a name for himself won’t be easy. Bart is a hard worker, though, and if he steps up and has a good day, he may just find himself on a squad in preseason.

Des Lawrence

Lawrence is another shocking Combine non-invitee getting his first chance to make an impact. Lawrence should run in the  low to mid 4.5’s. In drills, Lawrence will have to prove that his has looser hips than the other late-round corners. Lawrence could put himself into a day three conversation with a strong showing.

Dominique Green

Green proved himself as the centerfielder at the college level now he has to prove he can do it at the NFL level. Green will have to prove that only one interception this past year was a fluke and put his ball skills on display. Green could be the Romar Morris of this year’s pro day.

Nick Weiler

Weiler is one of the top kickers in this year's class and here is his shot to prove it. Weiler just has to show that his first season as the Heels kicker was due to inexperience. Weiler should make a camp this upcoming fall and this might just solidify that thinking.

This Pro Day will be a little different than in years past, as national media attention will be centered around Chapel Hill and in particular Trubisky. Carolina Pro Day has become a must see event. After it's all over, check back here at Heel Tough Blog for all of the Pro Day results.
