Comments on Panthers Free Agency Moves

NFL: Pro Bowl-AFC/NFC Practice

Before getting into this post I just wanted to say I am finally bank to writing on a regular basis. I was waiting for Sportsblog to finish with the website update and I am glad that it is finally getting done. To get back into sports blogging I wanted to make a brief post about the NFL free agency and how the Panthers did this year.

For those of you that did not get a chance to read about all the moves the Panthers have made thus far regarding roster signings or just simply can not keep up with all the transactions, I am going to summarize which players left, were resigned, and/or brought on from another team.

Players resigned - CB/special teams player Teddy Williams (one-year contract), offensive linemen Chris Scott (one-year contract), RB Fozzy Whittaker (two-year contract), WR Brenton Bersin (one-year contract), safety Colin Jones (one-year contract), DE Charles Johnson (one-year contract), DT Kawann Short (signed franchise tag), DE Mario Addison (three-year contract) and LB Ben Jacobs (two-year contract).

Players released - FB Mike Tolbert (recently signed with Bills), linebacker A.J. Klein (recently signed with Saints), DT Paul Soliai, WR Ted Ginn (Saints), WR Philly Brown.

New/returning players - WR Charles Johnson (formally Vikings), safety Mike Adams, DE Julius Peppers (Panthers/Packers player), WR Russell Shepard (formally buccaneers) and CB Captain Munnerlyn (Panthers/Vikings player).

So the Panthers were able to bring back two familiar faces. If you are pleased with the Panthers bringing back those two former Panthers players you can thank Charles Johnson (the defensive end). He worked hard to reach out and bring back some old friends.

As far as my opinion of the Panthers free agency transactions, I am pleased. I would give the organization a B+ on their free agency recruitment actions. I believe that having these veterans spread out in the locker room will really help the rookies on the roster improve their game.

Where should the Panthers go next?

The draft is coming up in a few weeks and I think the Panthers should focus on drafting a running back, tight end, wide receiver, and defensive end. However, do not be surprised if Gettleman takes an offensive tackle early in the draft. There is no way he will pass up on a good hogmolly.

That is all for this post. Thank you for taking the time to read my work. If you have any more questions or would like to know more about the Panthers free agency moves or draft needs, comment below or tweet at me (@carpantherlive).
