Doug Martin Suspended Four Games

Today, December 28th 2016, Doug Martin (Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back) has been suspended for four games by the NFL. Ian Rapoport was the first one to confirm the news.

Martin has been dealing with all kinds of injuries and pains on the football field, but there are hints that he has been dealing with some depression and family issues off the field which has forced him to use unhealthy drugs. He released a statement to the team and all of his fans:

"On the field, I must be strong and determined to push through both pain and injuries to become an elite NFL running back. Off the field, I have tried that same approach in my personal life. My shortcomings in this area have taught me both that I cannot win these personal battles alone and that there is no shame in asking for help."

Martin was considered a healthy scratch for week 16 which ends his season with 421 rushing yards and three touchdowns over the course of eight games. He signed a five year contract extension over the off-season guaranteeing $15 million, but because of his troubles following the drug policy, he "voids guaranteed money on his $7 million base salary next year."

Jacquizz Rodgers will lead the backfield until he can return.
