Phillies Sign Scott Kingery to Huge Deal

The Phillies made some more huge news on Sunday afternoon as they announced that Scott Kingery, the top second base prospect in baseball according to MLB.com, signed a huge deal that will lock him up in Philadelphia for years to come. The deal is for six years but includes options to keep him a Phillie for three more seasons after his new contract expires.

Kingery has yet to play in a major league game, but is now expected to make the Phillies out of spring training. As a second baseman, Kingery has been blocked by Cesar Hernandez, another talented and productive player who has been the starting second baseman for Philadelphia for the past several seasons. As a result, Kingery has played all over the field throughout spring training, playing at shortstop, third base, and center field along with his primary position of second base.

Kingery has forced the Phillies' hand this spring, as he has hit .392 with four homers and seven RBI's in 51 at-bats. He's also stolen 4 bases. Kingery is a legitimate 20/20 threat and can do it all. He can hit for power and good average. He can also field exceptionally well, especially at second base. Finally, he has impressive speed and is a stolen base threat on the bases. Kingery is just another great young addition to a Phillies' lineup that already has impressive youngsters in Rhys Hoskins, Nick Williams, Odubel Herrera, and Jorge Alfaro. Scott Kingery looks like he will be a great piece for the Philadelphia Phillies for years to come.
