Welcome to week number three of the 2017 MLB Power Rankings.
2017 MLB Power Rankings: 4/17/17-4/23/17
(Season Record), [Previous Week's Ranking), {+,-, =}
1. Baltimore Orioles- (12-5), [1], {=} The O's are still the best team in baseball, they haven't had a losing streak yet. The most they have lost in a row is two games and that's happen once. 4-2 This week.
2. Colorado Rockies- (13-6), [2], {=} The Rockies are the best team in the NL right now. Their Closer Greg Holland is perfect with 9 which leads the majors and as a team they have ten which also leads the majors. 4-1 This week.
3. Houston Astros- (13-6), [3], {=} The Astros are tied for 8th in home-runs with 24. They have one of the best offenses in baseball. 5-1 This week.
4. Washington Nationals- (13-5), [9], {+6} The Nats are on a seven game winning streak. They swept the Braves and Mets on the road. 6-0 This week.
5. Arizona Diamondbacks- (12-8), [4], {-1} The D-Backs continue to play very good it's just sucks that they're in the same division as the Rockies and Dodgers. 4-3 This week.
6. Chicago Cubs- (10-8), [5], {-1} The Cubs offense is red hot right now, they hit ten home runs and averaged 7 runs this past week. 4-2 This week.
7. New York Yankees- (11-7), [8], {+1} All of the Yanks wins this past week they scored more than seven runs and in the three losses they scored a total of 5 runs. 3-3 This week.
8. Boston Red Sox- (11-8), [7], {-1} The Sox aren't playing great but not playing awful either. They have been inconsistent so far this season, the most wins they've had in a row is three. 4-3 This week.
9. Cleveland Indians- (10-8), [18], {+9} The Indians have won five out of their last six games, before Sunday's lost they had won five in a row. 5-1 This week.
10. Detroit Tigers- (10-8), [6], {-4} The Tigers didn't have such a great week they got swept by the TB Rays however, they ended the weekend winning two of three from the twins. 2-4 This week.
11. Miami Marlins- (10-8), [11], {=} The Marlins are in second place in the NL East and have been playing decent. 3-3 This Week.
12. Cincinnati Reds- (10-9), [10], {-2} The Reds are starting to fall back a little bit and have lost four of their last six games.
13. Tampa Bay Rays- (10-10), [23], {+10} The Rays are a team that will probably up and down all season long. One week they are good, the next not so much and so far that's the case. 4-3 This week.
14. Texas Rangers- (9-10), [25], {+11} The Rangers are starting to come around now having just completed a four game sweep against the KC Royals over the weekend after they had lost two out of three to the A's. 5-2 This week.
15. Los Angeles Dodgers- (9-10), [13], {-3} The Dodgers are third in the tough tough NL West. They played the top two teams in the division this past week and went 2-3 against them. 2-4 This week. They had finished a four game series with the D-backs last Monday in which they lost that's why it's four losses.
16. Philadelphia Phillies- (9-9), {26], {+10} The Phillies won two series against two division rivals this past week the Mets and Braves averaging 4.8 runs per game. 5-1 This week.
17. St. Louis Cardinals- (9-10), [29], {+12} The Cards finally are playing good having swept the Pirates and took three out four from the Brewers. They aren't scoring much but they won with their pitching. How long this streak lasts is a wait and see. 6-1 This week.
18. Oakland Athletics- (10-9), [27], {+9} The A's are actually playing fairly well having won five of their last seven games against the Rangers (2-1) and the Mariners (3-1). I don't see this lasting very long and expect them to be back in the bottom next week but we shall see. 5-2 This week.
19. Milwaukee Brewers- (9-11), [12], {-7} The Brewers are another team that are good one week and bad the next. This team can score runs but if they aren't scoring they probably don't win. Their starters combine have an ERA of 4.61 which is 28th in MLB.
20 Minnesota Twins- (8-10), [14], {-6} The Twins after their first week have fallen back to where I expected them to be around .500. They have lost five of their last six games. 1-5 This week.
21. Pittsburgh Pirates- (8-10), [16], {-5} The Pirates lost their Center Fielder, Starling Marte for 80 games for testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs last Tuesday. If the Pirates made the playoffs he wouldn't be able to play. 2-4 This week.
22. Chicago White Sox- (8-9), [19], {-3} The White Sox have lost four of their last six games. They continue to play better than expected. 2-4 This week.
23. New York Mets- (8-11), [17], {-6} The Mets had a really bad week losing five of their last six games and are on a four game losing streak. They haven't scored more than five runs in nine games; scored five runs once which was their only win this past week.
24. Seattle Mariners- (8-12), [21], {-3} The M's had a really awful weekend losing three out of four from the A's. They are tied with the Braves for the worst road record in MLB at 2-9. 3-4 This week.
25. Los Angeles Angels- (8-12), [20], {-5} The Angels have lost five of their last seven games. They put Garrett Richards on the 60-day DL on Sunday due to a biceps injury. 2-5 This week.
26. Kansas City Royals- (7-11), [15], {-11} The Royals starters combine have an ERA of 2.48 which leads the majors. However, the Royals aren't scoring runs therefore aren't winning games. They have lost five their last six games averaging 1.3 runs. 1-5 This week.
27. San Diego Padres- (8-12), {28], {+1} The Padres have been playing well and have a Team starters ERA of 3.70 which is 7th in MLB. 3-4 This week.
28. San Francisco Giants- (6-13), [24], {-4} The Giants are the most disappointing team so far but it's still way early. The Giants lost their Ace Superstar pitcher, Madison Bumgarner for about six to eight weeks however, it could be more then that or it very well could be less. Mad Bum got into a dirt bike accident during an off day and injured his ribs and sprained his left shoulder.
T.30. Atlanta Braves- (6-12), [22], {-8} The Braves have lost six straight games and haven't scored more than four runs during the streak. Sadly this is what I expected from the Braves, they will be good in the future but they're still a young team with old players in the mix. Freddie Freeman has been their lone bright spot so far with 7 HRs (tied for 2nd in MLB) with a batting average of .381 (3rd in MLB).
T.30. Toronto Blue Jays- (5-13), [30], {=} The Jays finally won more than one game in a week. They're 26th in runs scored with 63 runs scored.
Raise and Fall:
Biggest Raise: St. Louis Cardinals 29th to 17th
Biggest Fall: Kansas City Royals 15th to 26th
This week's rankings were little bit easier to do then last week. As the season moves along, I expect it to be little easier to do the rankings as the "Pretenders" start to fall and the "Contenders" start to raise.
