Fifth Down: Eagles Beat Up Sam Bradford in his Return to Philadelphia!
I'm back for another "Fifth Down" and my take on the Eagles game.
This past Sunday, was the return of former Eagles' Quarterback, Sam Bradford as he returned for the first since being traded eight days before the season. He and the Minnesota Vikings came in undefeated (5-0) and coming off a bye week their defense hadn't given up more than 16 points all season long and was one of the top three defenses in the NFL. The Eagles were coming in off two big losses to the Detroit Lions and the Washington Redskins. The Eagles beat the Vikings 21-10 in a defensive game.
My Five Thoughts:
1. The Eagles defense dominated all day long and looked like the same defense that from the first three games of the season. They made their tackles, pressured Sam Bradford (sacked him six times) all game long.
2. The special teams were a huge factor and in the game as Wide receiver, Josh Huff returned a kick return for a touchdown (Which was a game changer) that gave the Eagles the lead for good. In addition, Caleb Sturgis was two for two in making field goals.
3. Carson Wentz had his worst game of the season/his career as he threw two interceptions. He looked like a rookie out there against a top defense.
4. The Offensive line did a great job in protecting Carson Wentz not allowing a sack.
5. The Eagles only committed seven penalties, which is better than the last three games when they had double-digit penalties in all three games.
My Final Thoughts:
My thoughts are that he was an ugly and hard fought victory by the Birds, they fought all game long and didn't even let the Vikings score anything until the end which was just a late touchdown. They really beat up on Sammy as he had his worst game of the season. I'm surprised he wasn't hurt, he took a few good shots out there. The Eagles offense wasn't all that either as they weren't able to move the ball all that well. As I said before the Eagles defense dominated but they still weren't able to stop the short passes to the running back as they allowed six catches to Matt Asiata for only 25 yards, so it wasn't that bad but still they need to work on that.
Finally, the Eagles go back on the road for the next two week as they face two of their biggest rivals. This Sunday night, they face the 5-1 Dallas Cowboys who are coming of a bye week and then the following week they play the hated New York Giants. These next two games are very important if they want to win the division as they are already 0-1 in the division.
Thanks for Reading! Until next week
