Week 6 NFL MVP Rankings

After last weeks games, there is only one change to my Top 3 from last week which you can read here.  We drop Von Miller and bring into the fold Derek Carr.  So, without holding things up....here are the Top 3 MVP candidates for NFL MVP as I see it heading into week 6.

1. Matt Ryan - QB - Atlanta

What else can be said except there is a rejuvenation going on in Atlanta. After a big in in Denver last week, Atlanta goes on the road this week to face a tough Seattle team.  Get through that one and the schedule becomes very favorable for a run by the Falcons. Matt Ryan is leading the NFL in yards, yards per attempt, QBR, yards per game, and touchdowns.  Mix all that with only 1 interception, and that is the formula for winning, which the Falcons are.

2. Sam Bradford - QB - Minnesota

Bruce Kluckhohn-USA TODAY Sports

I said it last week and I will say it again, but what Sam Bradford is doing in Minnesota is a miracle.  Traded for the week before game 1, he has come in to a situation where Minnesota has lost their starting QB, franchise RB, and left guard.  All he has done is go 5-0 and, with the best defense in football, has the Vikings as the NFC favorites as of this moment.  His stats do not wow you, but 70% completion percentage, six touchdowns vs. zero interceptions, second in QBR, and is averaging 7.42 a throw.  But what those stats do not show are that he is managing the game, showing veteran leadership, and is putting the Vikings offense in a spot to score.  Plus, how you can you not just feel good for the guy after all the injuries?!

3. Derek Carr - QB - Oakland

Cary Edmondson-USA TODAY Sports

As in Atlanta, there is a rejuvination going on in Oakland, and this is being led by Derek Carr.  Passed on by many teams in the draft, including Houston twice for not wanting to draft another Carr, he plays with a chip on his shoulder, but smart.  So far this year he is only behind Matt Ryan in touchdowns (11), has a completion percentage of 66.8%, QBR of 102.3, and had thrown form 1,383 yards.  Jack Del Rio has brought a new attitude to Oakland as Head Coach, and Derek Carr is reaping the direct benefits of having a coach in Oakland that understands players.   Oakland gets Kansas City at home this Sunday.  If they win that one, they will put a grip on the AFC West that has been dominated by their main foe Denver Broncos for years.
