Division II star QB Antonio Pipkin gets invite to Reese's Senior Bowl as his name gains steam for the NFL offseason
Every offseason leading up to the draft there is one player from a small school that gets hype heading into the NFL combine and other activities and this year the early hype is on Tiffin University QB Antonio Pipkin. He is a scholar athlete and the reigning GLIAC player of the year as he set many school passing records including yards, completions and attempts. He was a nightmare for defensive units as be would end up with over 10,000 passing yards and 2,000 rushing only the 13th player in division II to do so.
Pipkin is looking to be this years "gem" of the draft as ESPN draft expert Mel Kiper Jr. has him rated in his top 10 so far, but we have a good ways to go and a lot of workouts still left to make him a solid sure shot for any team in the league.
The climb up from a division II school to the NFL may be a bit steep, but his training process and upcoming Reese's Senior Bowl appearance should give him a taste of what the next level has to offer. He has his strengths and weakness like any other QB on any level, but scouts will get a better understanding and help him work on it as much as possible.
The Senior Bowl will also give him an advantage to work with NFL head coaches and put him ahead of the learning curve over some of the underclassmen who will declare for the draft. This will also give some scouts and coaches an understanding of his awareness in the pocket, ability to make throws in a tight window and read pre-snap defensive formations.
Let's take a look at this young talented athlete in action.....
Pipkin will definitely go through some growing pains and have a lot of questions to answer, but he gets a chance to run with some of the best college football has to offer, so some of those tough questions will be answered soon. He may also possess some of the traits needed to play the position at the next level, but the ones he needs to fix may be the ones that lands him on an NFL roster. Pipken's positive outlook on life shows a strong will to succeed at everything he does.......
Whether people truly believe in you or not ... All you need is to believe in yourself !
