Improving Formula One

Another season saw Mercedes romp home to victory. Interest came a little bit in the final race as Lewis Hamilton slowed Nico Rosberg into oncoming traffic, an attempt to have him passed. It failed but any attempt to be making racing more exciting needs to be embraced

1. The Tyres need to last longer. It is believed next season they will. But the excitement of racers being told to effectively time trial to whatever time they are told gets rather tedious. If the tyres survive a longer time then this gives the chance for more aggressive driving and the potential that teams will be on different strategies.

2. The races need to be shorter. We all love a 60 lap battle where drivers are constantly swapping positions. When the overtaking is not happening it becomes a procession to the line. It should make racing more exciting and more watchable without giving up a couple of hours

3. Lewis Hamilton pointed to changes in the rules next season and said he believed improvements in aerodynamics are practically pointless. It will make it that bit faster but will not help overtaking which is what needs to be helped. Lowering kerbs and widening circuits would certainly help. Hamilton's suggestion was more mechanical grip.

4. Less of an emphasis on money. We know who the richest teams are. This does not give them a right to the front of the grid. The sport is better the more teams that are competitive. Turning in to a Mercedes or Red Bull procession is boring.
