Jordi Lee Beats Adversity and Dreams Big

Jordi Lee's early interest in health and fitness provided a great avenue to a start of her bodybuilding career. However, when she started her preparations for her first competition, she found out she had some health complications.

Lee's interest in health and fitness started in Matric. "I really wanted to look good in my (matric) dance dress so I started eating healthier and going to my local gym after school," explained Lee. From then on, her interest in health and fitness grew and later she acquired a personal training qualification.

Lee said during that time she joined an MMA gym just to keep fit. That is where her bodybuilding career began. Her coaches, including Tayla Kennedy who is an EFC athlete, told her that they would help her prepare for a bikini competition that was due to take place in 6 weeks. Lee took the offer with excitement.

"Just before my first prep, I found out that I had Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome," she said. This was a potential huge blow to the start of her career. Lee was told by her doctor that she would not be able to lose weight due to the syndrome. She only had 6 weeks to prepare and losing weight was a big part of it.

"My doctor told me that I would never lose more than 5kgs and didn't think my body would respond well to comp prep," said Lee. "I did it anyway and went on to prove him wrong by losing 11kgs over the course of 12 weeks and placing well in all my shows."

Lee went on to win the competition in her division with only 6 weeks to prepare and some health challenges.

She is currently aiming to move up to the fitness division and has her eyes set on the King Shaka Classic on the 24th of March 2017 as a debut in that division.
