Georgia downs Tennessee hopes for NCAA Tournament

Knoxville,TN- Saturday evening the Georgia Bulldogs rolled into Knoxville for a must needed win, while going on a five game loosing streak. On the flip side, Tennessee was looking for a must needed to win to keep there NCAA tournament hopes alive. However, Georgia and Tennessee came out to both strong starts in the first  half with Tennessee leading at halftime 34-36. All night the Vols struggled from the perimeter . However during the second half Tennessee had a 14 point lead before blowing up and Georgia's point guard Frazier came alive. Tennessee had no answer for Frazier all night and couldn't' stop him. Frazier made plays for the Georgia all night long and Tennessee had no answer. Frazier scored 29 points and led the Bulldogs (14-11, 5-7 SEC) to a come-from-behind 76-75 victory over the Vols before a crowd of 15,637 at Thompson-Boling Arena. But, WIlliams from Tennessee had no help on the offensive side. He led the vols  (14-11, 6-6) with 30 points, but it was Frazier coming up big in the clutch.  The Vols opened the second half on a 13-2 tear, going up 49-36 when Lamonte Turner hit a free throw after Georgia coach Mark Fox was whistled for a technical foul.

The final score was 76-75 Georgia.

Moments later, Tennessee had its largest lead when Williams hit the 22-point mark, canning a jumper to make it 53-39 with 15:13 to play.

The Bulldogs fought back, with Frazier scoring 10 points in a 19-5 run that tied the game at 58 with 8:21 left.

Tennessee held a 36-34 lead after a closely contested first half that featured eight lead changes and saw four ties. Jordan Bone’s two free throws with 6.4 seconds left before intermission separated the teams through the first 20 minutes.

The Vols had built a 34-28 lead with a 6-0 run moments before, only to see Georgia rally with a 6-0 run of its own prior to Bone’s free throws.

The end summary to this game, Tennessee RPI diminishes as the loss happened and Georgia's hopes stay alive. This will be a big momentum booster for Georgia as they move ahead. However, Tennessee had to throw this game away and get ready to go battle the Kentucky Wildcats Tuesday night @ Rupp Arena 7 P.M. on ESPN.

In the last Meeting between Kentucky and Tennessee, Tennessee knocked the Wildcats in Thompson-Boling Arena Last Month.
