Butch Jones Fired

The day has finally come for fans of the Tennessee Volunteers. Butch Jones has informed his staff that he has been fired, on the heels of the Vols 50-17 loss at the hands of Missouri.

This has been a long time coming for Jones, after a mediocre 34-27 in his 5 seasons in Knoxville. Maybe the most interesting statistic of the Jones era is that Tennessee has now lost its most recent game against every SEC team. Jones has had commits dropping like flies after a very down year, and more will likely leave with a coaching change.

Lots of names have been tossed around in the Tennessee rumor mill, such as Jon Gruden and a possible return of Lane Kiffin, who has done an outstanding job at FAU. Another name that has been thrown around is Mississippi State Head Coach Dan Mullen, but I'm not quite sold he'd leave a ranked MSU team for a declining program. Finally, many people are thinking Chip Kelly could return to coaching to take over the Vols. Regardless of who is hired, the next month or so of searching should be very fun
