Tigers roar to a Citrus Bowl victory over Louisville

All eyes were on Louisville quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson heading into the Citrus Bowl.  The #20 LSU Tigers and #13 Louisville Cardinals went head-to-head in the Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Florida on Saturday morning.  LSU was without Leonard Fournette, one of the Heisman favorites from the 2015 season and LSU's leading rusher.

Malachi Dupre had a huge first half for the Tigers.  With 8 minutes left in the second quarter, Dupre had already recorded 5 receptions for 123 yards.  

Before halftime, Dupre had reached 136 recieving yards, which amounts to a new career high.

Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson had been sacked 5 times in the first half, including once for a safety.

At halftime, LSU leads Louisville 16-6.  Louisville was held to just 57 total yards in the first half.  Danny Etling had thrown for 187 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Lamar Jackson was held to just 2-10 for 62 yards in the first half.  Jackson was also credited with 12 rushing attempts for a total of -24 yards.  The entire Louisville offense was held to -5 rushing yards through the first half.  For LSU, Derrius Guice had 17 attempts for 49 yards.

Delahoussaye missed his first field goal of the day, but redeemed himself later on hitting a 42 yarder and a 25 yarder.  

The Tigers ultimately won the game on the defensive side of the ball.  LSU was lead on defense by Arden Key and Tashawn Bower who combined for 5 sacks and 8 tackles for loss.  The Tigers also managed to contain Lamar Jackson and hold him to just 10-27 for 153 yards through the air and 33 yards rushing on 26 attempts. 

LSU won 29-9 over Louisville in the Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Florida.  Coach Ed Orgeron won his first bowl game as the head coach of the Tigers.  LSU named Orgeron the permanent head coach after he went 5-2 after taking over for Les Miles.

Derrius Guice was named the Citrus Bowl MVP.  Guice had 148 rushing yards on the day and 2 touchdowns.
