Blue and Gold Report: Syracuse

The new-look Irish head into East Rutherford, New Jersey on Saturday afternoon to take on the Syracuse Orange.  I will be updating this post frequently throughout the afternoon so feel free to check back often.  Also feel free to follow me on Twitter (@Sports_OPI_nion) as I will be live tweeting throughout the day.

On the first play from scrimmage, DeShone Kizer finds Equanimeous St. Brown for a 79-yard touchdown pass.  Following the PAT, it's 7-0 Notre Dame.

Eric Dungey of Syracuse ran for a 3-yard touchdown.  The Irish defense blocked the PAT and returned it to the end zone for two points.  Notre Dame leads 9-6.

Kizer finds St. Brown for another TD on a 67-yard strike.  Following the extra point by Justin Yoon, the Irish now lead 16-6.  Kizer is 2-2 with 146 yards with 2 TD.

Eric Dungey finds Amba Etta-Tawo for a 72 yard touchdown pass through the air for Syracuse.  16-13 Notre Dame leads Syracuse.

C.J. Sanders returns the kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown.  We aren't even 5 minutes in and its already 23-13.  This is the craziest 5 minutes of football that I have ever seen.

At the end of the first quarter, Notre Dame leads Syracuse 23-13.  DeShone Kizer is 5-7 for 170 yards and 2 TD.  St. Brown has 2 receptions, 2 TD, and 146 yards.  For Syracuse, Eric Dungey is 10-13 through the air for 169 yards and a TD.  The new-look defensive Irish are still have problems slowing down the Syracuse offense.

Notre Dame safety Devin Studstill has been ejected for a targeting hit on Syracuse QB Eric Dungey.
