Mets Beat Tigers 5-2 Behind Spring MVP Conforto

It is only three games into Grapefruit League play. Three games cannot tell the tale of how a player will perform in the season and even for the rest of spring. However, it isn't a bad thing to get off to a hot start.

Michael Conforto has done a great job of getting his name put into the hat for the 25-man Opening Day roster with his hot start. Conforto went 2-3 in the Mets 5-2 win over the Detroit Tigers earlier today including blasting another home run off of a lefty. Right now, Conforto is the guy the Mets must put on the Opening Day roster. Again, it is only three games into spring.

Other notables in this game included Matt Reynolds going 2-3 and Travis d'Arnaud going 1-3 with an RBI. The Mets are looking for a big season from d'Arnaud who's been plagued  by injuries over the past two seasons. Jose Reyes also went 1-3 with an RBI.

As for the pitching Paul Sewald started in place of the injured Chris Flexen. Sewald went two solid innings allowing only a walk. Addision Reed, who may be the Mets closer to begin the season, gave up just one hit in his inning of work. Chase Bradford was the only one who gave up runs today in his two innings of work. Bradford allowed 2 hits and a walk as well while striking out one.

A couple of off-field news, Kevin Plawecki's X-ray came back as just a bruised knee and is day-to-day. As for Lucas Duda, he is downplaying the back spasms he is experiencing. He says he should be ready to play in a couple of days.

Tomorrow the Mets host the Houston Astros at First Data Field. The Mets will start lefty P.J. Conlon against righty Joe Musgrove. The game starts at 1:10pm and will be on SNY.
