New York Liberty Week 4 Recap

It was a great week for the New York Liberty. They won three out of the four games and they snap their 17 game losing streak. The Liberty team are now ninth in the standing with a 3-5 record.

New York Liberty split two games with the Las Vegas Aces (4-3), Los Angeles Sparks(4-3) and they beat the struggling Minnesota Lynx (4-5). They were all convincing wins and this team shows us that they can be a playoff contending team but this team still some problems that need to be addressed.

Defense is a major issue for this team. The New York Liberty are rank 11th in defense rating they are allowing 101.8 points per game. They also have a hard time defending the paint they're rank 10th in the league allowing 35.8 points per game.

One thing this team can hang their hat on is the offense. New York Liberty are fifth in the league in points per game with 80.1. They're second in the league in free throw attempts with 19.8 per game and they average 36.6 rebounds per game which is ranked fourth in the league.

Players who have been hot

  • Amanda Zahui B has been on fire last week she averages 16.8 ppg, 8.3 rpg, and 2.8 bpg. She scores a career-high 37 points against the LA Sparks. She also had a 15 and 13 game against the Lynx and had 5 blocks against the Aces. This season Amanda has been the defensive anchor for this team.

  • After the slow start, Kia Nurse has flip a switch. Last week she averages 19.8 ppg with a .412 field goal percentage. So far she has been avoiding the sophomore slump.

Rookie Watch

Asia Durr had a career night against the Lynx where she scores 20 points. This season she averaging 11.3 ppg with a .438 field goal percentage. Asia Durr has been inconsistent this season. One game she would have double-figure scoring and in the following game, she would be in the single digit.

Games this week

New York Liberty only has two games this week. On Wednesday they play against the Chicago Sky (4-2). Chicago Sky are on a three-game winning streak and I am sure they want to continue that streak. The next is on Saturday and they play against the Minnesota Lynx (4-5).

All-star voting polls have opened up don't forget to vote it would a shame if we don't see at least one Liberty player on the all-star team.
