Cool hand Luke (Heninger) tops Stanely County Invitational
Stanley County junior, Luke Heniger earned a 3-2 win over Jackson Englund of Burke/Gregory to claim the 126 pound championship at the Stanley County Invite.

All day long there was a little buzz floating around the Stanley County Invitational surrounding Stanley County junior, and defending state champion, Luke Heninger. That buzz only grew louder when Heninger (126) pinned his opponent in just 5-seconds in the semi-finals.
As Heninger stormed to the finals there was a perhaps an equally impressive, and demonstratively loud eruption from the Burke/Gregory kids when their 126 pounder, Jackson Eklund pinned Chance Stuwe of Potter County to advance to the finals of a very difficult bracket.
Heninger a defending state champion (120) pounds and Eklund (3rd at 113) squared off in a state championship caliber final to highlight the Stanley County.
Terrific, early season match for these two with Heninger pulling out a 3-2 win. Let me tell ya something, we're gonna be hearing a lot about these two kids this season. Heninger had his hands full as Eklund countered everything Heninger threw at him. Every point was contested, every scramble tough and several on the edge of the mat scoring situations could have thrown this match either way.
I don't know what it is about wrestling crowds but when they witness something special, everyone just seems to know...No one has to tell them. As the referee raised Heninger's hand for the victory, the entire crowd stood and applauded the effort from two quality kids that are gonna be tearing up South Dakota this winter.

Couple notes from the tournament that saw Class A Spearfish in attendance, and several very good teams from Potter County, Lemmon/Mcintosh and Spearfish in attendance.
Burke/Gregory's JJ Beck is one tuff customer - Man, I would hate to be this guy's sparring partner in practice. Beck is tough, and he wrestles tough. Show him your face and it will be cross-faced, raise your head and it will get mashed into the mat. Beck has a certain toughness, and skill, that makes him a scary opponent for the rest of the 160 pounders in South Dakota.

Lemmon/Mcintosh has some tough kids: Dylan Wolf captured the Stanley County Invite at 106 pounds. Brother, Dirk Wolf, a state runner-up a year ago, captured the title at 132 pounds and 220 pounder, Brayden Peterson captured the title at 220 pounds with a tough win over Cutter Gillaspie of Stanley County.
Dylan Wolf, Class B's No. 1 ranked 106 pounder pinned Jacob Wike of Todd County in the championship.
Did Potter County just take down Spearfish: Potter County is going to be a handful this season. They had two champion but they had a ton of kids in the finals and a ton racking up points in third place matches. Potter County 203.5 Spearfish 201, Burke/Gregory 176, Lemmon 170, Stanley County 132
