Will people finally stop referring to Norv Turner as one of the greatest play-callers in NFL history

Norv Turner resigned as Offensive Coordinator of the Minnesota Vikings.

Seems like every time the Vikings are on television or any time a commentator references the Vikings offensive game plan they always reference Norv Turner as one of the great play callers in NFL history. There it was again on Sunday night as Rodney Harrison dialed up the 'Vikings will be fine on Monday night because Norv Turner is calling the shots," banter.

Well, after the Vikings got crushed 20-10 by a terrible Bears team, dropping their second straight game with an uninspired offensive output, Vikings coach Mike Zimmer was slapped into consciousness enough to have THE talk with Norv. While the official record will say that Norv Turner resigned as Vikings Offensive Coordinator, you can imagine that Zimmer had some harsh words for Turner whose unimaginative offense and inability to adapt as teams made changes finally caught up to the most over-rated NFL OC in history.

Here's the thing, I don't know Norv Tuner, or his family, but how long can one rest their resume on being the play caller for the Dallas Cowboys during their reign of terror in the 90's? Seriously, who couldn't have called the shots with a team that had a HOF QB, HOF WR, the best RB in NFL history and behind the best offensive line in NFL history?

Yeah, those players did some great things in Dallas, but, when you have that kind of talent, run, right, run middle, move the chains isn't that hard to execute.

Since the stint in Dallas, Norv Tuner killed the Raiders, absolutely left Charger fans pulling their hair out and did less with more during his stay in Minnesota. People will argue that Turner is a great OC and not a great head coach. No he's not....He had great talent around him in Dallas, and everywhere he's gone since, has seen offenses devoid of motion, intricate sets, misdirection and the ability to adapt as defenses adjust.

Still like this Vikings squad. They are really banged up on defense at the moment, and said defense isn't playing close to the championship level they were early in the season. Interem OC Pat Shurmer has worked with Sam Bradford before so look for improved play from Bradford in the coming weeks.

While I wish nothing but good things for Turner and his family, it's time to stop hiding behind that Dallas success because a spade is always a spade.
