MLB Rumors: Braves interested in Matt Wieters?

Danny Wild-USA TODAY Sports

The Atlanta Braves have not been shy about making moves this off-season. Although most have been additions to the starting rotation. I believe the Braves have a strong interest in signing catcher Matt Wieters. In 2016 Wieters hit .243 with 17 homeruns and 66 RBI in 124 games with the Baltimore Orioles.

Since his first MLB at bat Wieters has been looked at as someone who has great potential, but doesn't live up to it. Injuries have been a huge part of that as Wieters hits the disabled list just about every season. The Braves still see potential in him though, but will they sign Wieters?

The Braves will be playing in a new stadium in 2017 and would love to have a competitive team. Playoffs aren't likely, but definitely an improved team from 2016. They need a leader behind the plate like when they had Brian McCann. I believe the Braves want Wieters to be their leader behind the plate for the next 4-5 seasons and help mold this young pitching staff that is coming for the Braves.
