It's ESPN's 40th Anniversary Everybody, And What a Road We Have Traveled Down Over These 40 Years Together. It All Started On September 7th 1979. And Since Then ESPN Has Provided Tons Of Sports Memories Over The Years.
Here Are Some Of The Memories That Stick Out To Me Since ESPN Debuted.
1980: The United States Olympic Hockey Team Beats The Heavy Favorite Soviet Union. Two Days Later The U.S Would Beat Finland To Capture The Gold Medal.
1981: Indiana Beats North Carolina For The Men's NCAA Basketball Championship. But The Game Was Almost Not Played That Night Due To The Assassination Of President Ronald Regan.
1982: North Carolina Beats Georgetown To Win The NCAA Men's Basketball Championship As The Country Was Introduced To a Young Michael Jordan.
1982: The Cincinnati Bengals Face The San Diego Chargers In The Freezer Bowl AFC Championship Game With The Bengals Winning 27-7.
1983: The NC State Wolfpack Upsets The Houston Cougars To Win The NCAA Men's College Basketball Championship.
