Trea Serves Rockies a Cycle in Slugfest

Washington Nationals shortstop Trea Turner was batting .219 with no homers and just two RBIs in nine games this season, heading into Tuesday night's game at Coors Field.

That all changed pretty quickly on Tuesday. The two best teams in the National League went at it, as the Nats battled the Colorado Rockies on the road in game two of a four game set. Washington jumped out to an early 8-3 lead after four innings, and owned a commanding eight run margin after seven. The Rockies stormed back with four runs in the eighth and one in the ninth, but couldn't complete the comeback. The Nationals won the slugfest, 15-12.

Of the five home runs that were hit during the game, one of them belonged to Washington's Trea Turner, his first of the year. The young shortstop also smacked a single, a double, and (wow, what a surprise) a triple. Turner's cycle was the first of his career, and the third in Nationals history. Trea picked his average up during the game, by jumping seventy points from .219 to .289. Oh yeah, and he snagged seven RBIs, too.

Daniel Murphy also contributed to Washington's win, going 3-5 with five RBIs. Charlie Blackmon went 3-5 with a homer and three RBIs, in a failed attempt to bring his team back into the game.

The Nats and Rockies will play twice more this week on Wednesday and Thursday to finish out the series.
