Charleston Classic Scouting Report: Wake Forest's Bracket

On Thursday, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons (2-0) start play in the Gildan Charleston Classic.  This is a great opportunity for the undefeated Deacons to play some good teams and maybe even a national championship contender. Wake Forest is guaranteed at least two games in the tournament, but can have a chance to play three.  Here is a scouting report of the seven other teams in the tournament.

UTEP Miners (1-0): UTEP is Wake Forest's opening matchup and has only played one game this year and defeated Louisiana College at home 88-54.  Their top player is Junior Guard Omega Harris.  He scored 24 in the opener and was third on the team in scoring last season.  The Miners were 19-14 last year and are looking to improve this season and make the tournament for the first time since 2010.

3 Villanova Wildcats (2-0): The defending national champs are the marquee team in the tournament and are also perfect thus far.  They already have an impressive win over 15 Purdue.  Kris Jenkins, the hero of the national championship game, returns for another year and his offense will be tough for all of the teams in Charleston this weekend.  It would be a huge surprise in Villanova doesn't win this tournament.

Western Michigan Broncos (1-1):  Western Michigan's football team has to be the main story on their campus in Kalamazoo, but their basketball team has an opportunity to defeat the defending champs on Thursday afternoon.  They opened their season with a win against Marygrove College 90-74, but lost to their only division one opponent thus far, the Oakland Golden Grizzlies.  Sixteen turnovers hurt the Broncos and they will need to protect the ball more in their game against Villanova.
